Here’s a handy mouse! If you travel alot, you’ll know that space is essential. So what do you do when using that touchpad starts to cramp your finger? Use a MoGo Mouse that’s what! It’s a simple concept, but Newton Peripherals has done a good job of thinking out the details. Newton, by the way, is named after a town near Boston, not the late and not-terribly-lamented Apple PDA.

The size and shape of a normal PCMCIA card, the MoGo feels solid, but PCMCIA cards are thin, and it would be rather awkward to push one round a desk as a pointing device. Newton’s answer is a spring-loaded “flipstand” that raises up the back of the mouse under your palm, so you can grip the raised end between your thumb and fingers. The stand flips up with a satifying pop.

Apple admits to blunder

No we kid you not – today Steve and his chums over at Apple held their hands and up said ‘yes sir we cocked up’. Well they didn’t actualy say that but you know you get the drift. It all came about as a result of people complaining their macbooks were running hot and had excessive fan use. Some users then noticed a small clear piece of plastic blocking the rear vents. People then starting talking about this discovery in blogs all over the internet and the rest, as they say, is history. Read on to hear what apple had to say.

Some MacBook computers may appear to be running too warm, with the fan running consistently and heat emanating from the top and/or the bottom of the computer.

If this happens with your MacBook, check the rear vent of the MacBook to make sure it’s not blocked.

Some MacBooks may have left the factory with a thin piece of clear plastic covering the rear vent. This is used in the factory to prevent dust from getting into your computer. If your MacBook has the plastic still over the vent, simply remove and discard it.

Here’s what E had to say, It hasn’t been long since we saw AMD pop up with their own dual core mobile processor, the AMD Turion 64 X2, and the first round of products are already beginning to appear. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Acer’s Ferrari 5000 and 1000, the former a 15.4-inch carbon fiber desktop replacement, outfitted with a 1.3 megapixel camera, 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, gigabit Ethernet, and a dual-layer slot loading DVD±RW drive — or, eventually an HD DVD drive (what, no Blu-ray?); the latter is a 12.1-inch widescreen machine that weighs in at 3.7 pounds. We’re not clear yet on price, availability, or what it’ll look like up in the face, but we are definitely interested to see how this machine will stack up against the slew of Core Duos already on the market.

Kodawarisan’s Black & White Macbook

Yes, by now it’s been established that the Japanese like things that look like checker boards. Their mobiles, their tv’s, and now their Macbooks. (Don’t forget the Korean LG KG800 also has a checkered keypad).
Kodawari took the key’s off of the white Macbook and placed them on the black one. I personally don’t like it, but I’m sure there are many fans that will disagree. Ah well, it was a nice little surprise.

Apple MacBook reviewed

Thanks to Ars Technica we can bring you a review of the product that caused the biggest stir this week – the new MacBook. Well to sum it up they’re rather glowing in their praise for this beauty. Although for all their laptop innovations Apple doesn’t seem to have managed to figure out how to keep these Dual Cores cool, so like the MacBook Pro your going to struggle to sit this thing on your lap. Also, in Notebook Review’s first impressions writeup of the MacBook they encountered serious instability from heat, making the laptop almost unusable. The only other serious problems Ars had with the MacBook were the relatively slow integrated graphics – even though they were able to run more casual gaming titles just fine in OS X and Windows XP. Ohh and if you are stupid enough to pay an extra $200 just to have a black one – then don’t come crying to us when it peals – it’s what you get for having more money than sense in the first place. Otherwise, the laptop looks like quite the deal and a decent performer. The iSight, MagSafe and Front Row aren’t anything different from the MacBook Pro, which is to their credit. In benchmarks the MacBook performs much closer to the MacBook Pro than its iBook predecessor, and its easy expandability and multitude of pro-ish features make it a laptop that Widgx can easily recommend!

Black Macbooks begin to Flake

Well it doesn’t look too good at the moment. It seems that in less than 24 hours, people have started reporting that the paint job on their black Macbooks is flaking. The argument is, why are people paying $200 more for a paint job that can’t even stand a day.
We don’t know if this is an isolated incident (bad batch) or if these people are simply scratching away with their nails, however something tells us that Apple will be quick to defend themselves by dismissing this issue.
People shouldn’t worry about this with their white Macbooks though since the white ones have a glossy layer whereas the black is simply matt. Just another reason why it’s better to wait a few days before jumping on the Apple bus.

New Apple MacBook

Today Apple launched their Intel based MacBooks. The new models are available in white and black, with a 13.3-inch, 1280×800 display and full-size keyboard. All are based on Intel’s Core Duo processor, at speeds from 1.83 GHz to 2.0 GHz. The Macbook also includes an integrated iSight webcam, a remote control, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth. The new models are available immediately from Apple’s online store at prices from £749 to £1,028.99. So it is time to say goodbye to the iBook name.

Macbook ‘Supposed Accident’

So apparantely, someone made a mistake and posted the Macbook advert on Apple.com and it was quickly removed.
Mistake, Fake, or not, it’s not really much to doubt. It does show that it comes in two flavours, and has a price tag of around $1000. Expect true details to be coming out within a week.

Introducing the Slimline LG XNote T1

So you thought you were the coolest kid on the block with your super thin mobile phone? Well sorry thin phones just don’t cut it anymore – anyone who’s anyone is now clambering to get one over each other and have the thinnest notebook. Yes once again small is the order of the day – at least for electronics, and the LG XNote T1 is the daddy of them all measuring up at just 21mm thick.

It will be offered in a couple of wide screen resolution choices including 1280×800 WXGA or 1440×900 WXGA+ , and you can also pack it with up to 4GB of RAM. Its Intel Core Duo L2300 processor runs at 1.5GHz, it has a 5-in-1 memory card slot, fingerprint sensor and of course, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. And, even with all this thinness, there’s still a DVD burner inside. This is one gorgeous laptop with impressive specs. It weighs in at an almost feather like 4.2 ponds. No details as yet on price or availability but – information we are eagerly awaiting here at Widgx!

Apple developing a media center rival?

With Apple’s general method of publicly denying the demand for a product until they announce its imminent release, Steve Jobs’ words at today’s annual shareholder meeting were quite telling. Without giving much away, Jobs stated: “The new products in the pipeline are the best I’ve ever seen in my life.” But in response to a particular shareholder’s request for Apple to develop “the ultimate media center” to give Microsoft’s WMCE a run for its money, Jobs responded: “we hear you loud and clear.” Quite the strong words from such a secretive man, though he was on a bit of a roll. In regards to the recent 17-inch MacBook Pro’s release, Jobs let everyone know, “Everyone wants a MacBook Pro because they are so bitchin’.” Thanks for that, Steve. Jobs also mentioned the possible demise of the CRT in their lineup, due to environmental concerns and their general lack of bitchin-ness.
